***Masterchef sundaes

This year for our MasterChef competition the kids wanted to make sundaes.  I told them they would all get vanilla bean ice cream and have use of chocolate, caramel sauce and whipped cream.  They could choose up to three secret ingredients that they wanted to have just for their own creation.  We gave them each time to go online and research recipes and come up with their ideas and then they gave me their lists of items from the store.
Emma saw a picture online and decided she wanted to put her ice cream into hollowed out apples and then cover it with caramel, whipped cream and mini M&M's.  It looked really cute.  Avery went sort of traditional and did chocolate and caramel and then diced up tons of strawberries and covered them with whipped cream. Can't go wrong with going classic.  Emma won hands down last year in the pizza competition and when I saw her going to town I seriously thought she might take the competition again.  Hunter had been very secretive about his and when all the kids put their ice cream on the table to be tasted I was impressed.
He had made homemade "fried ice cream" without the frying.  He had used cornflakes, coconut, sugar and a few other ingredients and made a crunchy coating for the ice cream.  Then he had made a big ball out of the ice cream and rolled it in the mixture and topped it with whipped cream.  All I got were bad cellphone pics of it but it looked good and it tasted great.  Everyone tasted each others and then all took a turn to cast their vote.  Emma got two votes and Hunter had three, Hunter had taken the title.  I was proud of Emma because I thought she would take losing really hard since she loves to cook more than any of the kids and has loved pointing out over the last year that she is the Master Chef.  She handled it great and went over and hugged Hunter and told him that she voted for his because it was sooooo yummy.  Deke had the great idea of getting a rolling pin and putting the name of the winner and the year down the side of it to add to each year as this tradition continues.  So 2014 Masterchef is Hunter!
