We were watching tv our last night when a commercial came on about Bauman's rare book shop in the Palazzo hotel. Being a major bookworm I told Deke we had to squeeze it in before we headed out of town. So the next morning after hitting up Carlo's we headed to Bauman's. It was so cool. They have two other locations, one in Philadelphia and one in New York. I hope to someday see the other two. Gorgeous dark wood bookcases and glass cases with beautiful rare books inside. I was in heaven.
They had a great collection of books and writings some dating back to the 13th century. We were excited to see a Shel Silverstein book there since we enjoy his poems. There were tons of "classics" like Gone with the Wind and Huckleberry Finn.
One of the ladies that worked there came over and was showing us some of their oldest books. The kids started telling her about our book wars that we did this summer and talking about their favorite books. She asked Hunter what his favorite book was and he told her that he had just finished reading the Harry Potter series. "If you wait just a minute I have something very special to show you" she said and then took out a key and disappeared into a back room. She came out holding a small case and opened it to show us a first edition, signed Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone!!!! We were all so excited, lots of Potterheads at this house. She opened the cover and let us see JK Rowling's message and signature. It was so neat to see the first illustration of the cover. What made it so rare was that it was the first edition of the first book and that she had signed it. Hunter couldn't believe it. All of the books we saw were really neat but getting to see that was awesome, I'm still geeking out about it :) :) :)
