Our garden

We planted earlier this year and had our most productive garden yet.  Emma's strawberries grew big and pretty...
We have had tons of little zucchini's....
Avery's sunflowers continue to grow taller along the fence.  It may be a small garden in our small excuse for a backyard but it is wonderful to see something green outside among all the brown and dirt.
The kids favorite thing to eat has been the sugar snap peas.  They love to pick them off the vines then hurry in and wash them to eat. They are sweet and soooo yummy.  They are starting to die off in the heat and we are all bummed because they have tasted so good and have been a fun afternoon snack for the kids.
The kids waited and waited for our tomatoes to get big enough and turn red.  Last year the tomatoes never grew.  Finally we looked out and they were perfect, we decided to wait until the kids got home from school to pick them.
We headed out to get them later that afternoon and to our dismay some birds were helping themselves to both of them.  Ugh.  No one got to taste them.  We're back to waiting for the next pair to grow and ripen.
It was really neat to see that Emma's strawberries grew so well and her sweet prayer was answered.  The week of conference the first three largest berries turned red and were able to be picked.
The third one turned red on Saturday and Emma enjoyed it sliced up with her store bought strawberries on her conference waffles.  She was so excited.   She told us that her strawberries grew because she said prayers for them.  We were able to have a discussion about answers to prayer and Heavenly Father's awareness of us not only in the big things we need help in but also the small things we pray for in our lives.  It may sound silly but I felt so much gratitude to Heavenly Father for listening and helping those berries to grow at the right time.  For answering her simple prayer and creating a moment of testimony building for her.  I hope that she will always have the desire to reach out to Heavenly Father for help throughout her life.
Hudson has loved the garden.  So much in fact that he is constantly trying to pick off the fruit and veggies before they are ready.  He was the worst with trying to get the strawberries.  Thank goodness he never pulled any off too soon.  He was so excited when the time came to pick them finally and he got to eat some.  Every time I go out to water he hurries to find his shoes saying, "outside....outside!!"
We have all really enjoyed tending to our garden and watching it grow.  Something about gardening and the process of creation that is so amazing.  So neat for the kids to be a part of.  Can't wait until we actually have a yard and a different climate to work with.  Going to build some raised beds and hopefully produce way more.  Ahhhh springtime!
