Community hunt

We did one of these once years ago when Ave was just a baby.  It was over in Surprise and it was organized, had a ton of stuff to do, and the kids loved it.  So we decided this year to try the community egg hunt out east from us in Apache Junction.  There were so many people there and it was not quite as organized.  In fact let me just say that I have not been so bothered by the way adults have acted like that in a long time.  Some were ridiculous.  Running on the field picking up eggs like crazy and shoving them in their kids baskets (after they had announced that the kids have to get the eggs on their own).  Emma was so cute and ran out and starting grabbing some eggs.  Once the crowd of people and pushing and crazy parents  started coming our way she ran over by me and stood completely content with the six eggs she had already gathered.
We headed over to Avery's race which was crazy as well.  Avery hurried out and started gathering eggs as fast as she could until again the masses started approaching.  During all the hullabaloo a little guy's basket got knocked out of his hands and his eggs went everywhere.  I was so disgusted as I watched kids jump in and take all of his eggs as he tried to get them back.  Worst part was that their parents were right there with them watching them do it and taking pictures.  I was ready to take someone out.  Seriously.  Really lady? I thought to myself.  Well I hope you feel good about the way you are acting for a plastic eggs with a flippin tootsie roll in it.  Ridiculous.
Poor guy lost all his eggs.  Ave went over and gave him a couple as his dad and I talked about how silly people can be.  The kid walked off the field crying.  It was fun to let my kids race for eggs but I don't like anything where some kids are walking away with nothing.  Hunter and Avery also both found eggs with star coins which meant a special prize at the prize tent.  They were so excited.
We headed over to Hunter's race and finally we found a race where the parents stayed out of it and let the kids race on their own which was fun to watch and interesting to see that there really was no drama and I didn't see any kid walking off without some eggs in their basket.  Hunter was hilarious with his strategy.  When they said go!, most of the kids started grabbing the eggs right in front of them on the edges of the field.  Instead Hunter booked it all the way to the middle of the field where there was practically no one and had tons of eggs available before the others got there.
The kids got stickers, candy and temporary tattoos in their eggs. Then headed to the prize tent to pick out an extra prize.  Ave and Em picked the princess jump rope and Hunter got a light up yo-yo.  The kids had had fun and were excited.  Deke and I agreed that we would not do this egg hunt again.
